The Walls Come Tumblin’ Down

By Staff | Jul 28, 2011

The demolition of the old building at the Graettinger/Terril Community School began in earnest this week, as crews from Boyer Sand and Gravel of Hawarden becan demolishing the 1930’s-era structure. A before-view of the two story structure is featured in the upper corner before the demolition began. Workers took down the old chimney stack last week with a man-lift and removed some roofing before attacking the structure with a pair of excavators early Monday. By Tuesday, the excavator was on the first floor, pictured above, as a crowd of onlookers observed and reminisced about their experiences. The building has not been used for the past several years due to fire code issues. --Dan Voigt photo
