Graduation Day in Palo Alto County Schools

Commencement exercises were held over the weekend at high schools throughout Palo Alto County.

At West Bend-Mallard, graduates returned to the stage after they received their diplomas. Each gave Amanda Schmidt, High School Principal, a great big hug. Bob Burns, 1956 West Bend graduate, gave the commencement address. He encouraged the graduates to “make the rules of life as you go.” He highlighted opportunity, freedom, knowledge and responsibility.

Jake Umsted is named Valedictorian of the Class of 2011 and Jessica Fehr is Salutatorian. Honor graduates are Brooke Banwart, Mackenzie Banwart, Andrew Bleuer, Colleen Fehr, Jessica Fehr, Jamie Klepper, Jordan Knobloch, Gregory Mader, JacobUmsted, Elisabeth Virkler and Heidi Zaugg.

At Graettinger/Terril High School, Ryan Schany and Brooke Edwards began the march into the gymnasium on Saturday afternoon during Commencement Exercises. Members of the Class of 2011 chose to wear colorful shoes with their caps and gowns as part of their class motto, “Being us and having fun, The Class of 2011 is numer one.”

The 21 members of the class of 2011 received their diplomas during Commencement exercises Sunday afternoon in Ruthven.
