Ruthven Area Baccalaureate

RUTHVEN – The pastors and congregations of the Ruthven area invite everyone to a Baccalaureate Service for area seniors on Wednesday, May 11, at the Ruthven United Methodist Church in Ruthven, 1402 Rolling Street. The service will begin after the awards program at Ruthven-Ayrshire School that evening, or about 7:45 p.m.

Pastors Roger Maize, Peter Nguyen, and Luther Thoresen will share in the leadership of this opportunity for worship and fellowship. In addition, youth from Sacred Heart Catholic, Ruthven United Methodist, and/or Zion and Lost Island Lutheran Churches will participate in various roles. The Ruthven- Ayrshire Concert Choir will share an anthem, “Take Root in My Heart,” directed by Luke Miller, Ruthven-Ayrshire vocal music teacher.

Guest speaker will be Sarah Kitterman Stevens from Sioux City. Sarah serves as Field Outreach Minister for the United Methodist Church of northwest Iowa, serving 105 congregations.

Sarah says, “I work with churches of all sizesto help them to be church outside of their walls. This may include disaster relief, worship planning, stewardship, children and youth ministry, building issuesBefore this, I worked at the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence in Sioux City, educating area faith leaders about cycles of violence and advocating for victims. I have also been a youth pastor and program director at a local church in Sioux City.”

As a graduate of Morningside College, Sarah has continued graduate studies, initially at Claremont University in California, and now continues this at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She has been married to Dean Stevens for 13 years. The couple live in Sioux City with their dog, Lili.
