Celebrating 100 Years

By Staff | May 5, 2011

On Sunday, May 1, members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Emmetsburg, launched 100 balloons in anticipation of their church centennial on Aug. 25. Each balloon contained the date and place of the anniversary. The morning began with a regular church service, including a special choir anthem. Afterwards, the balloons were released and members enjoyed a potluck dinner where 100 cupcakes were served. To commemorate the centennial, 100 flowers will be placed around the church and a commemorative ornament will be sold. The ornament, in the shape of a star with a picture of the present church, is a reminder that St. Paul Lutheran first met on Christmas Eve. On Aug. 25, former pastors and guests will attend a service, and an afternoon program will be held for the public. – Lori Hall photo
