Excavation Contract Reviewed By Supervisors

By Staff | Feb 10, 2011

After reviewing a proposed contract, the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors signed off on a new contract for limited repairs to drainage districts. The action came during the Feb. 8 meeting of the Supervisors at the Palo Alto County Courthouse.

During the past two years, the board had a “Long-Reach” excavator contract with Valley Contracting of Estherville to perform limited repair work to drainage districts without going to the major expense of engineering studies and reclassifications.

Palo Alto County Engineer Joel Fantz was asked to revise the original contract document when it expired at the end of 2010 and prepare a new document. Presenting the revised contract, Fantz noted that it advised bidders that payment would be made by warrants drawing three percent, as well as a provision for contractors to provide their own spoil leveling, and increasing the per-project hours from 240 to 320 hours.

The revised document was approved unanimously.
