City To Participate In TAA Meeting
Emmetsburg will participate in a Community Trade and Adjustment Assistance Grant meeting Monday, Jan. 31, at Iowa Lakes Community College.
“This involves the whole county,” Emmetsburg Community Developer Steve Heldt told the council Monday night. “The Community Trade Act involves federal dollars that the college wrote a grant for.”
Heldt explained, “In the nine county area that the COG?(Council of Governments) has, we were the only county that lost percentagewise a number of employees – with Skyjack closing down, SNC closing down and IEI going to Architectural Arts, the number of people we lost, we hit a point where the percentage of jobs we lost exceeds an average across the state of Iowa so we were eligible for this grant.”
City Administrator John Bird added, “Leadership across the county will be invited to discuss Palo Alto County strengths and challenges, to share your perspectives on specific issues and opportunities that are important to you and your organization.”
“It’s kind of a direction to look forward with the circumstances we have now and what we can do to move forward,” added Heldt. “We’re hoping for 40 to 50 people to be there.”
The meeting will be held in room 503 at Iowa Lakes, Emmetsburg, with the 6 p.m. meeting following a light lunch.
