Iowa Lakes President Selected As Representative On Iowa Power Fund Board
Iowa Lakes Community College President Valerie Newhouse has been selected to serve on the Iowa Power Fund Board. Newhouse was selected as the lone representative for the Iowa Association of Community College Presidents on the Power Fund Board. Her tenure began on July 1, 2010.
The Power Fund Board is part of the Iowa Office of Energy Independence. The board consists of 18 members; seven voting members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by vote of the Senate; four state agency directors; and seven ex-officio, non-voting members.
Newhouse feels that the appointment will help her gain a much broader insight into innovative strategies being utilized across the state and around the world.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to observe what others are doing to promote renewable energy production and to decrease the dependence on fossil fuel consumption,” said President Newhouse.
The appointment made perfect sense with Iowa Lakes Community College’s involvement in renewable energy programming and increased usage of green technology.
President Newhouse’s primary responsibility is to remind those with specific requests of the Power Fund Board of the training opportunities available through Iowa Community Colleges. In addition, she will assist the Power Fund Board with questions, opinions and dialogue as the board makes decisions affecting business expansion, educational requests, and private requests for funding through the Iowa Office of Energy Independence.
