Graettinger Business Expands Operations

By Staff | Jan 4, 2011

The major employer in Graettinger has expanded its operations to include a facility in Missouri. Energy Panel Structures, Inc. (EPS) of Graettinger will now manage BBL Buildings & Components, Ltd. of Perryville, Missouri. BBL was recently purchased by Mac Arthur Company, the parent company of EPS. The sale was finalized December 23, 2010. The BBL Building facility and personnel will remain in Perryville and will add the broad line of EPS products to enhance the growth of that facility.

BBL was established in 1975, specializing in the sale and construction of post-frame farm, residential and commercial buildings. Facilities were expanded in 1979 and 2003. To meet the increasing demand for a broad range of agricultural, commercial and residential buildings, in 2008 the company expanded to 95,000 sq. ft. of new buildings located on 37 acres.

BBL’s manufacturing operations include wood roof and floor trusses for residential and commercial buildings plus exterior packages including wall panels for the residential home market. The company currently has 65 employees and serves all of Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. This service area will now expand to offer products and services in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky.

“Both companies have a history of success in the building industry,” stated Chris Spaeth, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for EPS. “BBL fits perfectly with the existing EPS product lines. Now, our customers will have access to all our products from our locations in Graettinger and Perryville. This will allow us to service additional states in the southeast as we continue to provide services from one of the largest independent dealer networks in the country.”

With the addition of BBL, EPS will offer conventionally-built housing, pre-assembled factory stud and frame walls, an economy post-frame design and southern pine post frame buildings. Together, the companies will employ over 175 people with expected annual sales to reach $70 million.

Energy Panel Structures, Inc. was established in 1981 as a subsidiary of MacArthur Company. EPS is an employee-owned company that serves the upper U.S. from Montana to New England with a local network of more than 320 independent authorized dealers. EPS manufactures products for ENERGY STAR homes and is known for a diverse market of products including residential, agricultural, commercial, food processing and structural insulated panel systems.

Mac Arthur Company, founded in 1913 and based in St. Paul, Minnesota has a total of 25 locations which, along with EPS, serves the upper Midwest, West Coast, Idaho, Colorado and Montana with over $350 million in products annually.
