Wittneben to Lead House Democrat Committee

By Staff | Dec 21, 2010

DES MOINES House Democratic Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines has appointed Representative-elect John Wittneben of Estherville as the lead Democrat on the House Local Government Committee for the 2011 legislative session.

“While it’s not typical for freshman representatives to lead House committees, John’s experience in local government and his community make him well suited to serve as Ranking Member of the House Local Government Committee,” said McCarthy.

Wittneben will also serve on Economic Growth/Rebuild Iowa, Natural Resources, Veterans Affairs, and the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee.

“I am humbled to be chosen for this leadership role on the House Local Government Committee. As a newly elected legislator, I look forward to listening to the concerns of my constituents in Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto Counties,” said Wittneben. “I encourage citizens of District 7 to contact me with their ideas and suggestions for the upcoming legislative session at 712-362-4797 or witsend@ncn.net.”

Representative-elect Wittneben was elected to House District 7 in November and replaces Rep. Marcie Frevert of Emmetsburg, who retired this year. He is a small business owner, community volunteer, and has served on the Estherville City Council.

The 84th General Assembly will convene its first day of session on Jan. 10, 2011.
