Banquet To Support Area Ducks Unlimited Projects
This Saturday’s annual fundraising banquet for the Palo Alto Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will once again be a large part of the ongoing efforts to preserve and restore wetlands and wildlife conservation. The annual banquet is set for this Saturday night, Nov. 6, at the VFW in Emmetsburg. A social hour will start at 6 p.m., with the banquet to begin at 7 p.m. and auction at 8 p.m.
“Ducks Unlimited is the world’s largest wetlands, waterfowl, and wildlife conservation organization,” noted Ron Riha, member of the Palo Alto Ducks Unlimited Chapter “DU has conserved over 12 million acres of wetlands and related waterfowl habitat since 1937. The majority of DU’s revenues are generated by one million supporters and members through fund-raising events like the Palo Alto Banquet on November 6 at the VFW in Emmetsburg. The funds from our banquet go to support our science-based wetland restoration projects.”
As in past years, the banquet and auction will feature several special auction items, including a camouflage guitar, which will be demonstrated prior to the auction by a special “Guest Strummer” on Saturday evening. A special auction item will be a Ducks Unlimited combination Grandfather Clock and gun cabinet, along with a Ducks Unlimited optics set.
Quality firearms will be offered during the event, from such respected manufacturers as Browning, Remington, Mossberg, TriStar and Marlin.
Each year, the banquet and auction features several exceptional pieces of artwork, and this year is no exception. A bronze sculpture, “Wave Runners,” will be one of the pieces offered, along with several decoys and other items. Artworks will include Larry Zach’s Ducks Unlimited exclusive, “Dream Bucks III” along with the first in a series of new artworks for DU by artist Ralph McDonald Giclee` entitled “Forever Friends”, a work presented on canvas.
There will be a wide variety of additional items on the auction, including lots of Avery brand camo hunting accessories, including blind bags, gun slings, gun cases, caps, and ammo belts.
Area businesses have donated many items for raffles and the silent auction and much of the DU merchandise offered has been underwritten by donations from area businesses.
A special raffle being offered this year as part of the banquet and auction is for a 42″ Panasonic 720P Plasma HDTV. Only 100 tickets are being sold for this raffle, and tickets are currently available from any DU committee member. The winner need not be present to win for the television raffle.
Tickets can be obtained from any DU committee member, including Ron Riha, Clint Young, Brian Garrels, Andy Stolley, Jordan Cody, and Joel Horsley.
