Bin Busting Bean Crop

By Staff | Oct 14, 2010

The fall harvest progressed so rapidly that officials at Pro Cooperative’s Graettinger location had to resort to storing soybeans on the ground at their elevator last week. The outdoor storage area, which usually sees corn piles during the harvest, grew rapidly last week, with the elevator accepting soybeans for just a few hours each day. At the same time, the corn harvest is forcing the elevator to begin filling a one-million bushel temporary storage bunker north of town. Despite the quirks of Mother Nature this season, it has truly been another bin-busting harvest in the region. – Dan Voigt photo
