Fire Prevention Month

By Staff | Oct 7, 2010

October is Fire Prevention Month. To observe the month, Kindergarten students from Emmetsburg Community School and Emmetsburg Catholic School visited the Emmetsburg Fire Hall. During the morning visit, students learned about the protective gear the fire fighters wear when they are fighting a fire. They saw a movie on the ABCs of Fire Safety and discussed planning a fire escape route with their family. Students promised Fire Chief Frank Kliegl to have their parents check the batteries in their smoke detectors, too. Above, volunteer fireman Corey Gramowski is pictured helping Tattum Fries spray a stream of water at a suspended barrel. Kindergarteners went back to school with a bag of good stuff, including a red fire hat, an activity book and a Home Fire Prevention Checklist. Look for more photos on page 7. --Jane Whitmore photos
