City Shows Support For The Guard and Reserve
Mayor John Schad has signed a Proclamation designating Sept. 12-18 as Emmetsburg Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week. Ted Ellis, Ombudsman of the Iowa Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, joined the city council members who signed a Statement of Support as a visual demonstration of their support for their military employees.
In signing the proclamation, Mayor Schad said, “Iowa’s National Guard and Reserve forces serve our state and the country with distinction, responding when called upon in the overseas operations as well as to the many humanitarian emergencies we have seen in our own state. By supporting our guardmen and reservists, Emmetsburg employers are also helping to advance freedom and democracy around the world. That’s why we’re proud to sign this proclamation today.”
“We are proud of our National Guard and Reserve military members and humbled by the sacrifice they make for all of us,” said Ellis. “At the same time we recognize that employeers are making sacrifices as well. That’s why signing this proclamation that recognizes employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve is so important. We thank Mayor Schad for signing a Proclamation designating Emmetsburg ESGR week.
“The employers who sign Statements of Support join a cadre of Fortune 500 companies, state and federal agencies and thousands of America’s employers in demonstrating support for our armed forces,” Ellis added. “By signing the Statement of Support, these employers are sending a clear message to their employees that while they are serving their country they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs.”
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 that seeks to promote a culture in which all employers support and value the military service of their employees. ESGR achieves this mission by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation.
