PACH Auxiliary Hosts A Baby Shower For Stork’s Closet
The Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary would like to invite the public to donate baby items to help restock the shelves in the Stork’s Closet located in the Upper Des Moines Office in Emmetsburg. This “Baby Shower” will be held September 13 through the 19th.
The Stork’s Closet is a program coordinated through Palo Alto County Community Health Services. The public health nurses enroll families in the program during their first home visit to families with newborns. Those who enroll in the program are given points or vouchers when they take their baby to immunization clinics, well-child check-ups, and during home visits by the nurses.
These vouchers can then be used to “purchase” needed baby items at the Upper Des Moines office in Emmetsburg.
“This program used to be funded by grant dollars, but those grants have been eliminated, commented Sarah Strohman, RN, one of the coordinators of the program. “To keep the Stork’s Closet going, we now depend on donations from the public.”
Items needed for the closet include: Diapers in Sizes 1- 4, Wipes, diaper rash ointment, bottles, new clothes up to 12 months, pacifiers, developmental toys and safety items such as kitchen locks, baby gates etc.
The “Baby Shower for the Stork’s Closet” will be held September 13 through the 19th. Collection sites are the Palo Alto County Hospital Lobby in Emmetsburg, Family Practice Clinics in Graettinger and West Bend, and the Ruthven Community Care Center’s Assisted Living Business Office. Monetary donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Palo Alto County Community Health Services Office at 3201 1st Street in Emmetsburg. Please make sure you designate they are for the Stork’s Closet Program.
