Free Flu Vaccine Offered to Palo Alto County Students

By Staff | Aug 3, 2010

Students in Palo Alto County will be offered free 2010/11 influenza vaccine at their school thanks to a grant awarded to Palo Alto County Community Health Services by the Palo Alto County Health Care Foundation.

Parents will receive consent forms at school registration sites throughout Palo Alto County this August.  Only students who have a consent form filled out and signed by a parent will be able to receive their vaccine at school.  Parents are asked to fill out and sign the consent form and leave it at the school registration site.  If you do not want your child to receive the influenza vaccine, parents are requested to sign the declination section of the form.

Nurses from Community Health Services will administer the flu vaccine during the school year, as vaccine is available.  Children under the age of 9 may need a second dose of influenza vaccine.  In this case, Community Health nurses will return to each school for the second dose.  Students 9 years of age and older will only need one dose of vaccine.  If a child is absent for either clinic at their school, they will be asked to get their vaccine at a community-based clinic scheduled in Palo Alto County.

If you have any questions about the influenza vaccine or the consent forms, call Palo Alto County Community Health at (712) 852-5419.
