Wow, what a wild, wild time we had. The 21st annual Auction Fest event was held on March 27. The Auction Fest board was excited to present the Emmetsburg Catholic School $106,000 on May 25 at the school board meeting.

Auction Fest started off with 2010’s Miss Shamrock Blake Schany, daughter of Gary Schany and Kari Schany, performing her artistic talent while attendees listened to her story as she painted. After the artwork was completed, she donated the art work and Jeff Schany purchased the item for $500.

Joe Temme, auctioneer, then kicked off the auction for an evening of fun. Items of interest this year were all class projects: Preschool Quilt $1500 to Dr. Paul Matthews, Kindergarten Quilt $900 to Mike Hood, First Grade Toy Box $2300 to Steve Theesfeld, Second Grade Messy Missy’s Fruit Bowl $1300 to Jessica Geelan, Third Grade Snuggle & Read Box $400 to Thad Louwagie, Fourth Grade Mosiac End Table $400 to Tom Lee, Fifth Grade Popcorn Machine and Bowls $350 to Thad Louwagie, Sixth Grade Painted Irish Wooden Picnic Table $350 to Bill Brown and Seventh and Eighth Grade Student Carricature done by Erin Schany $1100 to Denise Reimer.

Tom and Cindy Lee will be enjoying a weeks stay on the Mexican Riveria for a generous donation of $2000. John Higgins purchased the Best of Iowa Steak Dinner prepared by Father Clem Currans for $1400. During the evening, a crystal vase filled with $966 in green was discovered by Dan Voigt and was purchased by Larry Herbers for $2000.

To finish off the evening and new to this years auction was a raffle for a 1956 John Deere tractor. Raffle tickets were sold prior to the auction with the 150th ticket being auctioned off at the event. The lucky winner of the tractor was Sherry Cooper of Emmetsburg.

Once again the parents, grandparents, staff of Emmetsburg Catholic School, parish members and community members showed their generous support to the students of ECS. We thank each and every one of you.

The Auction Fest Board is currently preparing for the Third Annual Irish Open Golf Tournament. The four-person best shot tournament will be held at Five Island Golf on Sunday, June 27, with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Registration fees are $190 if registered by June 1, and $200 after June 1. Registrations accepted until June 20. There is a limit of 18 teams so you will want to get registered early. You may register by calling Jon Walker at 712-298-0847. Team spots will not be held until payment has been received. Gather your golf partners and join us for a day of fun!
