School Retirees Honored at Recognition Celebration

EMMETSBURG SCHOOL RETIREES – A retirement celebration was held May 27, to honor seven teachers of the Emmetsburg Community School District, who will retire at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. The retirees are (pictured, from left): Linda Jones, 27 years; Sue Brown, 17 years; Sharon Hobart, 26 years; Tom Hoover, 33 years; Karen Porath, 24 years; Sandy Leonard, 31 years; and Cynthia Berkland, 34 years. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room following the Staff Recognition/Retirement Celebration for employees of the Emmetsburg Community School District last Thursday, May 27. The event was held in the high school/middle school cafeteria.

Seven retirees were honored for their years of service to the school district: Sue Brown, 17 years; Karen Porath, 24 years;  Sharon Hobart, 26 years; Linda Jones, 27 years; Sandy Leonard, 31 years; Tom Hoover, 33 years; and Cynthia Berkland, 34 years.

Each retiree received a plaque and service pin from the school district, as well as gifts.

Service pins were also awarded to several school staff members:

5-Years:  Tyler Beving, Katie Ehlert, Patty Kelly, Jen Klingbeil, Renata Moore, Molly Rodemeyer, Dave VanHeuvelen.

10-Years:   Ron Menneke.

15-Years:  Phil Biddle, Barb Brennan, Cathy Backstrom, Lori Riley.

20-Years:  Beth Buss.

30-Years:  Karen Brown, Dave Fog.

Two instructors, Zach Hamann and Mindy Ross, will be leaving the school district at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Both were recognized for their service—Hamann, seven years, and Ross, three years.
