Cylinder Gets Ready For Quasquicentennial

Cylinder will be celebrating 125 years this summer.

A big part of the celebration is the Quasquicentennial Parade, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 7.

“Cylinder area residents invite you to participate in our town’s 125th birthday,” said Deb Weisbrod.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. Entries will be lining up between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. along the paved county road south of Cylinder.

For the parade, Highway 18 will be closed to through traffic. The parade will wind its way on a route around town, then exit south of town. There will be parade announcers and a judges reviewing stand along the route.

To take part in the parade, e-mail or mail an entry form with the following information: name of entry; contact person; address with city, state and zip;  e-mail address; telephone or cell number. Also, designate the class of the entry: family, business, antique, dignitary, group/club; and the approximate length of the entry.

The parade committee is also requesting a description of each entry to be used by announcers.

Participants will be notified of their parade number.

Tractor Ride

Antique tractor drivers will enjoy a scenic tour through six communities in conjunction with the Quasquicentennial.

The antique tractor ride will be held Friday, Aug. 6. The ride begins in Cylinder, then takes the scenic route through Depew, Fenton, Whittemore, West Bend and Rodman before coming back to Cylinder.

Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Stateline Cooperative. There will be parking for trailers and support vehicles at the elevator. Stateline will provide coffee, juice and Marjorie Solberg’s famous rolls. Each paid entry will receive a Cylinder Tractor Ride t-shirt from Creative Stitches.

Deadline to register is July 2. Entries must include: name, address, city, state, zip; tractor make, model and year. Also include t-shirt size. All riders must be 14 years of age or older.
