Grand Opening Celebration At PACHS This Thursday
It’s been three and a half years since the October 2006 groundbreaking ceremony on the front lawn of Palo Alto County Hospital. Construction and remodeling are finally completed and the staff of Palo Alto County Health System invites you to join them in the celebration.
A Grand Opening Celebration will be held on Thursday evening, May 6, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Palo Alto County Hospital. The dedication ceremony begins on the front lawn of the hospital at 4:30 p.m. A flag raising and flyover will be performed by the Emmetsburg VFW with the National Anthem sung by Trisha Willeford. Opening comments will follow. After the dedication, Palo Alto County residents are invited to take part in the many activities being planned for the evening.
Tours of the facility will be leaving from the hospital’s main entrance and will include all the newly constructed and remodeled areas of the hospital including the new private patient rooms, Obstetrics, PARC Hall, surgery suites, the new same day surgical department, Community Health Services, the business office, the new kitchen and Coffey Café. Separate tours will be available for those who would like to tour Willow Ridge, the Independent Senior Living Apartments.
A health fair will be held in the Family Practice Clinic waiting room. Free screenings include blood sugar, body mass index, body fat percentile, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, a grip test and a nine hold peg test will be available. Various displays and venders will also be set up in this area.
A children’s Teddy Bear Clinic will be held in the hospital’s Health Education Room. Children are asked to bring their teddy bears with them and learn how to take care of those bumps and bruises their bear might encounter. A helicopter and ambulance tour will be offered to children, as well as adults.
A free BBQ dinner will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. on the front lawn of the hospital. Along with dinner, guests will enjoy live music entertainment including singer Sarah Matthews (4:50 to 5:20 p.m.), Iowa Lakes Community College Jazz Combo (5:20 to 6 p.m.) and the Redemption Singers (6 to 7 p.m.).
Parking for the event will be limited at the hospital, but remote parking will be available at Iowa Lakes Community College with a free bus shuttle available from 4:15 to 7:15 p.m. Parking spaces will be reserved at the hospital for handicapped parking and patient parking, with the remaining spots on a first come first serve basis. Employees and volunteers will help with parking.
