ST. THOMAS CUPOLA is back in its original spot. Tuesday afternoon, Frank and Donna Kliegl moved the 1906 structure to the corner of 10th and Lake Streets, property owned by Ed and Jennifer Meyer. The Meyer family also owns the old convent (pictured at left) where they make their home. The cupola was placed on a concrete slab, in the approximate position where it once stood at the top of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Donna Kliegl is pictured (left) and Jennifer Meyer (right), helping position the cupola on its new foundation. The church was closed in 1997. The cupola was removed in February 2000 and had been in the Kliegl’s yard before they moved it to their business on west Main Street. St. Thomas Catholic Church was razed Feb. 27, 2000. The St. Thomas cupola will serve as a lawn decoration. --Jane Whitmore photo
