By Staff | Apr 22, 2010

It’s time for Emmetsburg residents to clean out old computer and electronic equipment. These items will be picked up during E-Waste and Brown Goods recycling next week.

What is considered E-Waste? What are Brown Goods? Basically, all types of computer and electronic equipment.

Items to be collected include computer equipment such as mouse, hard drive, lap top, desk top, circuit board, keyboard, speakers, external modem, monitor, server, scanner, mainframe, CD Rom, printer and fax.

Other items that will be collected include cell phone, typewriter, VCR, photocopier, pager, telephone, television and stereo.

Kitchen items will be collected, including can openers and toasters. However, no microwaves will be collected.

Collection dates are Wednesday, April 28, and Thursday, April 29.

Shamrock Recycling, Inc. will collect goods from homes on the north side of Highway 18 on Wednesday, April 28. Goods will be collected from homes on the south side of Highway 18 on Thursday, April 29. Items are to be placed at curbside by 7:30 a.m.

If these dates coincide with solid waste collection days, residents are asked to place Brown Goods and E-Waste away from normal trash bags.

Emmetsburg residents with questions can contact Mike Flannegan with Shamrock Recycling, Inc., at 712-426-3002.

City of Emmetsburg Clean-Up Week is May 3 through May 7. Clean-Up Week will correspond with residential solid waste collection dates.
