Eagle Project

By Staff | Apr 13, 2010

Howard Henkelvig of Emmetsburg recruited help from fellow Scouts as he began work on his Eagle project.?Howard is a member of Scout Troop 46 in Emmetsburg. His Eagle Project involved planting trees on the north side of Courthouse Square. Howard selected Red Oak, Samp Oak and Regal Prince, which is a cross between English Oak and Swamp Oak. The trees were purchased through MidAmerican Energy’s TreesPlease program. Howard and the Scouts planted the trees, then placed dirt and mulch aaround the base, and put tiles around the tree trunk for protection. He will be watering and caring for the trees throughout the season, until the ground freezes.
