“Wild Wild West”?At Auction Fest

The “Wild, Wild West” is coming to Auction Fest. The annual fund raising event for Emmetsburg Catholic School is this Saturday, March 27.

This is the 22nd annual fundraiser for the school. The evening begins with Mass at Holy Family Church, and continues at Corrigan Hall with a Silent Auction, dinner and Live Auction.

Preview Party

The public is invited to an Auction Fest Preview Party this Friday, March 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Corrigan Hall. New and exciting activities are planned, including the Chest of Chance, Luck of the Irish, High Low and Lasso Game.

Tickets for two drawings will be available Friday and Saturday. Quilt raffle tickets will be available, and tickets will also be available for a 1954 restored John Deere tractor.

Auction Fest 2010

The doors to the Wild Wild West open at 6 p.m. and the Silent Auction gets underway. Dinner is served at 6:45 p.m. The entrée is mesquite rubbed pork steak with dressing and rustic potatoes, bacon flavored long beans and Texas toast. Sandan’s unique dessert bar will top off the meal.

Father Clem Currans will give the invocation. Special guest speaker is Jan Stillman.

Blake Schany, newly crowned Miss Shamrock, will present her Artistic Expression during the meal. She will donate her painting to Auction Fest, to be sold at auction.

The live auction begins at 8 p.m. Joe Temme, an associate of The Auction Specialty Group from Omaha, NE, will once again provide auction services. Ringmen are Ron Hersom, John Higgins, Ken Lang, Ed Noonan, Daniel Reedy and Randy Schneider.

Live Auction

There are over 60 items on the live auction. Among the unique items is a Father and Son Gun Set, donated by the Knights of Columbus and Dick and Ann Marie Nelson. The gun set includes a Mossberg Silver Reserve 12 Gauge Over Under, and a Mossberg Silver Reserve Youth Model 20 Gauge Over Under. The lucky father and son will enjoy one day of hunting on youth weekend on the hunting property of Nelson’s Log CabInn.

There are a couple of addendums to the items listed in the Auction Fest book, including two black lab puppies from the Bob Soenen kennel. The puppies will come to Auction Fest, but since they are only three weeks old they will have to go back home for a while before they take up residence with their new owners.

A Minneapolis Get-Away is also added to the list of auction items.

Participants of the 2009 Irish Open Golf Tournament who attend Auction Fest will have their names in a drawing. Winner will receive a prize valued at $300.

Up for auction is a Golf Package donated by proceeds of the 2009 Irish Open. The package includes a family membership to Five Island Golf, four tickets to the Irish Open on June 27, 2010, and a personal caddy for the Irish Open.

More items on the live auction include: Minnesota Vikings tickets; a Panasonic 50-inch plasma television with Blu-Ray player; Holy Family Street Sign;

The Beach Babes are back, donating a day of food, spirits, party favors and fun in the sun on Five Island Lake. Emmetsburg Catholic School tuition package will also be on the auction block.

Emmetsburg Catholic School fourth graders have donated a black metal end table with handcrafted mosaic top. Snuggle and Read Book Box, donated by Emmetsburg Catholic School third grade class. First grade student donation is a birch wood toy box, which they have painted. Sixth graders have donated a hand crafted and painted wood picnic table. Second graders contributed Messy Missy’s Large Fruit Bowl decorated by the students. A one of a kind caricature of seventh and eighth grade students will be up for auction. Fifth grade students have donated a popcorn machine with bowls they have decorated. And the Kindergarten class has designed and donated the ECS Kindergarten Quilt. ECS Little Irish Preschool also donated a quilt which they designed.

Silent Auction

There are seven areas in the Silent Auction, including the Kids Corner; A Bit O’Green on the Holiday Scene; Pamper Me Please; Country, Garden and Home; Team Spirit; Toys For Big Boys; and, Services and Gifts.

Kids Corner: Needlepoint Baby Sampler; “A Book About Me” cloth storybook; handmade rocking horse; bedtime stories movie basket; beach tote with beach towel; baby diaper bag with hand quilted quilt and baby items.

A Bit O’Green on the Holiday Scene: Holly Jolly bucket; Santa plate; University of Iowa snowman shovel; two Irish pillowcases and Slainte – Irish Welcome; Celtic Cross wall hanging; Easter flag with stake; patriotic garden flag; Give Thanks pumpkin.

Pamper Me Please: Homemade full sized multii-color pin wheel quilt; basket of Iowa wines and other Iowa products; aromatherapy basket; basket with Five Island Lake T-shirts and two soy candles; picnic wine basket full of goodies.

Country, Garden and Home: decorative birdhouse; Dave Carpenter original print in the Wall Street Journal; breast cancer quilt; complete gardening set; 12 jars of homemade jelly; Iowa birdhouse; floral wine basket; U.S. flag flown over U.S. Capital; Lord’s Prayer candle bowl; Cylinder Quasquicentennial Package; autographed “Morimoto” cookbook.

Team Spirit: Items from Notre Dame, the University of Iowa and Emmetsburg E-Hawks; 2009 Honorary Alumnus Don Bormann replica ECHS Irish football jersey.

Toys For Big Boys: Farmall 300 with #251 McCormick Planer; Fishin-opoly; football grill; Chamber Bucks; six tickets per night to the Country Gold Fest at Wild Rose Casino; and, Gift Certificates from area businesses.
