Website Poll Is “Hijacked”

By Staff | Mar 25, 2010

Earlier this month, The Reporter and The Democrat placed a poll on our website asking respondents if they were in favor of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission issuing more licenses for gaming facilities, including four proposed casinos, one of which is proposed for Webster County.

In recent days, it was determined that the poll from this website was “borrowed” by supporters of the Webster County gaming initiative and placed on a Facebook page, with a message for supporters to go online and falsely pad the poll results in an attempt to sway state gaming regulators. At the same time, a similar effort was taking place with a similar website poll being conducted by KCCI Television in Des Moines.

Both polls were corrupted beyond belief. Response numbers were not plausible in the timeframe received, therefore, the poll in question has been removed from this website.
