Look For Some Changes In St.?Pat’s Week Lineup Of Events

A week of festivities observing 50 years of St. Patrick’s Celebrations begins this Sunday, March 14. There are several changes this year in the schedule of events.

The Junior Miss Pageant is this Sunday, March 14. Young ladies will vie for the crowns of Little Miss Shamrock, Little Lassie and Irish Miss. The pageant begins at 3 p.m. at Emmetsburg Community School Auditorium.

Emmetsburg’s visiting Irish Dignitary will arrive in town Monday, March 15. Senator Ned O’Sullivan and his wife, Madeleine, will begin their week of special appearances Tuesday, March 16.

St. Pat’s Headquarters Open House is on St. Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, March 17. The public is invited for Irish Coffee and Cookies between 2 and 4 p.m.

The Ceili Fun Night has been moved to Thursday, March 18. The fun begins at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall. Join the crowd for singing, dancing and instrumental performances. Be a participant or a spectator.

The Irish Cooking Contest is Friday, March 19, sponsored by the Robert Emmet society. Cooks are requested to bring their Irish dishes to the Multipurpose Senior Center after 9 a.m. Judging by the O’Sullivans will be at 11 a.m.

The fabulous Miss Shamrock Pageant is Friday, March 19, at Emmetsburg Community School Auditorium. Five young ladies will compete for the crown. The pageant begins at 7 p.m. A reception will be held after the event.

Runners will participate in the O’Round the Loch Scholarship Run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20. Events include the half-marathon and relay, 10K, 5K, and Fun Run/Walk. Pre-register online at www.iowalakes.edu/smithwellnesscenter/events/loch_run_registration.htm  or call 800-242-5108, ext. 5312.

Famous St. Pat’s Parade, Saturday, March 20. Pre-Parade begins at 1 p.m. The 50th Celebration will feature former Miss Shamrocks, Grand Marshals and Honorary Irishmen, plus visiting dignitaries and Irish Clans. The parade begins at 1:30 p.m.

St. Pat’s Banquet is on Saturday this year. The public is invited to the banquet at 6:30 p.m. March 20 in the dining hall of Iowa Lakes Community College. Contact St. Pat’s Headquarters for tickets.

Saturday Events – There are a variety of events throughout the day: Inflatable Fun and Petting Zoo on the Courthouse lawn; Face Painting at McNally Bake Shop 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Model Train Display at First United Methodist Church 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Magician performing at Emmetsburg Community School Auditorium 10:30 a.m.; Irish Stew served at the Multipurpose Senior Center 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Freedom Quilt Display at First United Methodist Church 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Master Gardener answering questions at Courthouse Square 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Magician performing at Emmetsburg Community School Auditorium 3:30 p.m.; Social Gathering of the Clans and Friends of Emmetsburg at Emmetsburg Fire Department 3:30 p.m.; St. Pat’s Bike Ride from Emmetsburg to Graettinger and back, register by noon at Cornerstone Pub, ride begins at 3:30 p.m.

Events will conclude Sunday, March 21, with the Rotary Pancake Breakfast served from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the VFW; Model Train Display at the First United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Trap Shoot at Sportsman’s Park from 12 noon to 3 p.m. For information on the trap shoot, contact Roger Will at 852-2775.
