Katie Kahler Named Emmetsburg Chamber Executive Director
Katie Kahler of Emmetsburg has been named Executive Director of Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce. She will begin her new job Feb. 1.
“I’m excited and I can’t wait to start,” said Katie.
Katie and Justin Kahler moved to Emmetsburg seven months ago.
“We chose to live in a small town,” said Katie, “and we really like the small town atmosphere. We’ve been here seven months and we’ve gotten to know some of the people. Personal relationships are really important.”
In her new job, Katie will meet Chamber of Commerce members and prospective members.
The Chamber Board of Directors interviewed three candidates for the position.
“We had outstanding candidates,” said Rick Jones, Chamber Board President. “All were very good and it was a very difficult decision.”
Jones noted that they were impressed with Katie’s experience and her background.
“In her part-time position with the city of Fort Dodge and Webster County, she worked extensively with the Fort Dodge Chamber, Fort Dodge and Webster County Economic Development, Iowa Central Community College and Trinity Regional Hospital,” said Jones. “And, she has a lot of computer skills which are essential to today.”
Katie Kahler has served as Grant Administrator and Government Liaison with the City of Fort Dodge for the past four years.
“While I worked in Fort Dodge, I worked in communication, marketing and public relations. All of these things will be important working with the Chamber of Commerce,” said Katie. “The liaison role will carry over with the community, businesses and the Board of Directors. I will, in effect, be ‘selling’ Emmetsburg and the Chamber.”
A big aspect of the job is living in town and not having to travel to work.
“It will be wonderful to live and work in the same community,” said Katie. “We previously lived in Humboldt and I worked in Fort Dodge.”
Katie Kahler takes over the position from Cecilia Miller, current Executive Director of the Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce.
“We are sorry to lose the leadership of Cecilia Miller, however we are very happy to have a qualified and talented replacement,” said Dan McCain, incoming President of the Chamber.
“Cecilia raised the Emmetsburg Chamber to a higher level during her tenure with us,” said McCain. “She organized and improved every aspect of the Chamber as well as improving our relationships with business leaders, the city and county. We are extremely grateful for her excellent work and we will miss her leadership.
“With that said, Katie will be further ahead as Executive Chamber Director. Cecilia leaves this position in a great place for Katie to hit the ground running. Katie has some terrific business skills and an exciting vision for the Emmetsburg Chamber. We all look forward to working with her to achieve that vision,” said McCain.
“It’s our job, as a Chamber Board, to support Katie in every way we can, ” added Jones. ““We’re excited for her and we’re excited for the Chamber.”
Katie Kahler is involved in her church and active in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She plays trumpet with the Biblical Brass and plans to participate in the municipal band this summer. Katie also liked to play tennis and read.
Katie and Justin have a daughter, Vivien. Their little girl is one year old and just started walking.
“I plan to bring enthusiasm to my new position as Executive Director of Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce, and I can’t wait to start,” says Katie.
