Homecoming Week Starts Monday At Graettinger/Terril
GRAETTINGER – As the leaves begin to turn colors, Homecoming activities pick up steam around the area. The Graettinger/Terril Community Schools will observe their Homecoming 2009 starting Monday, and will cap the week off with the annual Homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 25, when they host Twin River Valley at Evergreen Park in Graettinger.
The Homecoming week celebration will start on Monday, Sept. 21, with PJ Day, a day designed for pajamas. All good Knights will wear their pajamas to school to show their support for the Knights. Monday evening will be filled with activities, as the annual VIP Supper will be served in the lunchroom at Graettinger, starting at 5 p.m. The supper will precede the annual Pep Rally and the coronation of the Homecoming royalty for 2009, which will take place in the high school gym at 7 p.m. Monday night.
The Homecoming court for this year is comprised of Queen candidates Amanda Oleson, Dakota Hovinga, Tasha Neilson, Brianna Girres and Lizzie Niemann. King candidates include Cody Dyhrkopp, Michael Jensen, Taylor Harris, Brandon Laidig and Joe Moore.
Crown bearers this year are Laura Chicoine, the daughter of Galen and Julie Chicoine and Riley Schultz, the son of Matt and Emily Schultz. Junior class attendants are Kayla Smith and Jesse Nissen, while the Sophomore class attendants are Skye Simonsen and Tym Hart. The Freshmen Class attendants are Anna Kienol and Blaze Alesch. Serving as the Master and Mistress of Ceremonies for the coronation ceremonies will be Kelsey Hart and Tyler Harris.
After starting the week with coronation, Graettinger/Terril students will continue to observe theme days through the rest of Homecoming week. Tuesday will be Favorite Team Hat and Jersey Day. Wednesday will be a nostalgia day, proclaimed Hippie and Neon Day. Wednesday evening will feature the Spirit Barbecue for all volleyball and football players, along with band members, at Evergreen Park at 6:30 p.m. The G/T cheerleaders will sponsor the grill out, which will be followed by the Powder Puff football game.
Thursday will be Opposite Sex Day, where the roles will be reversed. Girls will wear guys clothing and vice-versa. Float committees will decorate golf carts during the afternoon hours of the school day.
Homecoming activities come to a head on Friday, which is Black Out Day, with everyone being encouraged to wear their black to support the Knights. Line up for the Homecoming Parade will take place at 1:45 p.m. and the 2009 Homecoming Parade will take place downtown at 2 p.m., with a community pep rally at Evergreen Park following the parade. The Knight Booster Club will host a Tail Gate supper at Evergreen Park Friday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with grilled sandwiches, chips, treats and beverage.
Homecoming comes to a climax at 7 p.m. when Coach Hector and the Knights square off against the Thunder of Twin River Valley.
