Five Island Trail Kick-Off This Weekend
A kick-off celebration for the Five Island Trails will held at Duhigg Park this Sunday, Aug. 30, beginning at 12 noon. Everyone is encouraged to walk, peddle, run, skate or ride along North Huron Road, from Soper Park to Duhigg Park, to experience the trail route that will soon be available along the lake for the enjoyment of all. The fun begins at 12 noon with a free-will cookout and continues at 1 p.m. with a program to thank donors who have been instrumental in the trail’s beginnings.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning, barriers will be put up on Huron Road, from the trestle south of Lake Shore Drive to Duhigg Park, closing the road to through traffic so residents can get to celebration on foot, by skates, or by bike. Cars may use the road to get to the park but are cautioned to drive slowly. There is some parking at the park but cars may also park along the side of the road.
The celebration will be fun for all with door prizes given away from Fareway, Alco and Hardware Hank. Five Island Trail t-shirts will be on sale for $10.
Members of the Osterhaus and Duhigg Families, as well as Senator Jack Kibbie and Representative Marcie Frevert, will be attending the event.
A presentation at 1 p.m. will include information about the trail and recognition for donors who have been instrumental in the trail’s development. Donations for the trails may be sent to F.I.T., P.O. Box 166, Emmetsburg, IA 50536.
