School Election September 8
Absentee ballots are now available for the upcoming school board elections in Palo Alto County. School board Election Day will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.
According to Palo Alto County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Gary Leonard, persons who are disabled or will be absent on Election Day may request an absentee ballot be sent to them through the U.S. Mail. Voters who are eligible to participate in the school board election can request an absentee ballot by mail by completing the “State of Iowa Official Absentee Ballot Request Form” and mailing that form to the Palo Alto County Auditor, P.O. Box 95, Emmetsburg, IA, 50536. The official request form may be picked up at the Auditor’s office, or can be obtained by calling the Auditor’s office at 712-852-2924 to have a form sent to you.
The Palo Alto County Auditor’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A change in the absentee voting procedure for this year’s election allows for individuals to vote an absentee ballot from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the same day as the election. Absentee ballots can also be voted in person at the County Auditor’s Office during normal office hours, or the morning of the election. Voters should be reminded that Monday, Sept. 7 is a Federal Holiday, Labor Day, and that the Palo Alto County Courthouse will be closed.
The last day to pre-register to vote in the school board elections will be Friday, August 28, 2009.
For the School Board Election, polls will be open from 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.
Polling places are as follows for the school board election:
Patrons of the Emmetsburg Community School District will cast their ballots at the Palo Alto County Election Center, on South Broadway, in Emmetsburg.
Voters residing in the Graettinger Community School district will vote at the Graettinger Public Library.
Patrons of the Ruthven-Ayrshire Community School District will be able to cast their ballots at the Ruthven Social Center in Ruthven.
Residents of the West Bend-Mallard Community School District will cast their ballots at either the West Bend Public Library or the Mallard Community Center.
