CITIZEN OF THE YEAR -- Maurice Conlon (left) was named Ruthven’s Citizen of the Year. He was honored Friday evening, introduced by Ron Brockmeyer (right). Conlon served in the Army during World War II, then returned to Ruthven where he and his brother operated a tavern. Conlon also drove school bus. BEARD CONTEST -- A group of men has been sporting beards for the Quasquicentennial, most starting their growth of facial hair during Cabin Fever weekend last February. Some already had beards and entered the “antique beard” category. Dave Ruehle (left) announced the contestants and the judges. Winners are pictured with trophies (from the left):?Best Antique Beard, Henry Swanson (red shirt); Best Overall, Dave Gustin; Best Full Beard, Luther Thoresen; Best Sideburns, Rich Feldman; Best Impersonation, Leo Geelan (Santa Claus or a Leprechaun?); Best Goatee, Stan Smith; and Best Mustache, Ralph Ruggles. --Jane Whitmore photo

The Ruthven Quasquicentennial was celebrated last weekend with a parade, selection of Citizen of the Year, and a beard contest–just to name a few of the many scheduled activities.
