Trustees Grant Minimal Raises At Iowa Lakes

By Staff | Jun 30, 2009

SPENCER – The Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College officially approved salary increases for the 2009-2010 college year at a meeting June 24, in Spencer.

The Trustees passed a motion, which included a just over two percent salary increase for fiscal year ’10 for all employees.

The Iowa Lakes Report featured the soccer program, which will start this fall at the Spencer campus. Kevin Farley, head soccer coach for both the men’s and women’s teams, outlined his plans for the future. In addition to the teams being competitive in their first year, Farley talked about how he feels that playing soccer can help prepare young people for success in the future. Farley stresses academics as well as building the whole person by volunteering in the community, with many players serving as mentors to young soccer players.

Also at the Spencer campus, the Trustees approved a three-year food service contract. Cabernet Catering will offer two meals a day–lunch and dinner–starting this fall. They will be located at Gateway North in the former Center Café location. The facility will take on a new name: The Dock. Food service was needed on the Spencer campus with the anticipated higher enrollment, which accompanied, in part, the soccer program. Meals will be served Monday through Friday. The facility will be open to the public Monday through Friday during daytime hours, starting this fall.

In other business, the Trustees learned of a new, exclusive beverage contract with Pepsi, which will cover three years. In addition, a change order was approved for the third construction phase of the Wind Energy Building (Sustainable Energy Education Center); and specifications for the Construction Technology Building on the Emmetsburg campus were approved and a bid date of July 20 was set.

The list of graduates was officially presented to the Trustees by Judy Cook, executive dean of Instruction and Development. The Trustees then approved the listing. Also, tuition for the Online Consortium (Iowa Community College Online Consortium) was increased by $4 per credit hour after action by the Trustees.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, in Emmetsburg.
