By Staff | May 21, 2009

Members of the Multi Agency Response Team (MART), were instrumental in the apprehension of a man wanted on Federal warrants late last week.

According to Palo Alto County Sheriff Dennis Goeders, the Okoboji Police Department was made aware of information that a subject, identified as 37-year old Stewart Lee VanMaasdam, was wanted on a Federal arrest warrant for Probation Violation. The United States Marshal’s Service indicated that VanMaasdam should be considered armed and dangerous.

With this information, the Okoboji Police Department activated the MART Team, of which officers from the Emmetsburg Police Department, Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Palo Alto County Conservation Board and Palo Alto County Ambulance Service are members, along with deputies from the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and Emmet County Conservation Board and Okoboji Police Department.

The MART Team, along with U.S. Marshals from Sioux City, collected information about VanMaasdam’s location, a motel in Okoboji, along with information on possible associates. A quick reaction unit was formed to conduct surveillance of the location where the wanted man was purported to be at. After gaining intelligence information on the location and the suspect, around 9:25 p.m. on May 14, the MART Team executed the Federal Arrest Warrant at the motel in Okoboji.

Stewart Lee VanMaasdam was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Dickinson County Jail, where he is being held for the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
