Wings & Wetlands

By Staff | May 12, 2009

MAKING A RUN FOR IT – A male and female pair of trumpeter swans were released at Lost Island Marsh north of Ruthven on Saturday as part of the 14th Annual Wings & Wetlands Weekend. A large crowd was on hand for the release, which was facilitated by Dave Hoffman, Trumpeter Swan Restoration Coordinator, with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. In addition to the swan release, kids enjoyed the Greenwings & Ringnecks Youth Program, and everyone had a chance to try canoeing at Smith’s Slough and take part in a Watchable Wildlife Tour through Dan Green Slough and Fen Valley. – Lori Hall photo
