Residents of the community of Emmetsburg and the surrounding area now have another option when looking to purchase a quality pre-owned car, truck or SUV–or a new or pre-owned boat close to home–Northland Auto & Marine Inc.

Tony Grandgenett, who hails from Whittemore, officially opened in the former Nauss Oil Co. storefront on Mar. 1, on Highway 18 East, in Emmetsburg.

“We thought Emmetsburg would be a great opportunity; it’s a growing community,” said Grandgenett. “The people of Emmetsburg have been great. Don Nauss [owner of the building] has been very accommodating with us.”

Grandgenett is one of three business partners, including Jim Flick and Mike Gregg, committed to making Northland Auto & Marine a success in northwest Iowa. Jim Flick started the business in 2007 in Humboldt, and quickly formed plans to branch out. Grandgenett joined the partnership a year ago, and Gregg came on board in 2009.

In addition to carrying pre-owned vehicles, Northland offers new and used Starcraft boats and new Evinrude BRP motors.

Customers may also purchase canoes, kayaks, or paddleboats. In the future, canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals will be available, as well. Area anglers will be happy to learn that Northland also offers self-serve live bait for sale 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Grandgenett shared that Northland is a licensed rental car dealer, providing rentals by either the day or for longer periods of time.

The business can also boast of a full-time marine and boat mechanic. Service Manager Brent Thilges can provide any and all service needs of marine vehicles. Thilges, who resides in Algona, has 17 years of experience in the field of marine and boat mechanics.

“We want to thank the community for a warm welcome to town,” Grandgenett added.

Grandgenett is planning a Grand Opening event this Saturday, Apr. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by to meet Grandgenett and Thilges, check out their selection, and enjoy a hot dog and pop.

Business hours for Northland are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, contact Tony Grandgenett at 852-3232 or visit the Northland Auto & Marine Web site at: www.northlandautomarine.com.
