Pony Express Riders Collect Over $2,300

The generosity of Palo Alto County residents, even in difficult times, was evident on Good Friday. The Pony Express Riders of Palo Alto County raised over $2,300 in donations for the Easter Seals Society in their annual ride.

According to ride organizer Vince Lammers, fundraising efforts in Palo Alto County throughout the entire year, including team sorting events, the Pony Express dances, annual fund raising auction, horse shows and play days, combined with the Good Friday ride, raised $12,509.22 for Camp Sunnyside, the Easter Seals camp near Des Moines.

On Good Friday morning, Pony Express riders collected donations in the various communities in Palo Alto County before gathering in Emmetsburg at noon. Donation totals from the various communities are as follows: Ayrshire, $178.20; Cylinder, $145.70; Curlew, $213.00; Emmetsburg, $608.28; Graettinger, $496.00; Mallard, $81.55; Ruthven, $430.05; and West Bend, $233.22.

State wide, the Pony Express Ride for 2009 generated $173,500 for the Easter Seals Society and Camp Sunnyside.
