Charges were filed late last week in the Palo Alto County District Court against a Mallard teen as the result of a crash in August of 2008 that resulted in the death of two teens. According to Palo Alto County Clerk of Court MaryEllen Munn, three charges were filed against Wyatt Wirtz of Mallard, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the collision.

Court documents indicate Wyatt Wirtz was charged with Possession or Purchase of Alcohol Under the Legal Age, a Simple Misdemeanor; Failure to Obey a Stop Sign, a Simple Misdemeanor; and Failure to Wear a Safety Belt, a Simple Misdemeanor, in connection with the August 17, 2008 crash. A vehicle driven by Wirtz failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a car driven by 17-year old Melinda Bruellman of Ottesen. A passenger in the Bruellman vehicle, 18-year old Christopher Gearhart of West Bend, was killed in the collision. Bruellman died a few days later as the result of injuries sustained in the collision.

Wirtz is scheduled for a court appearance to answer the charges in Palo Alto County on Friday, April 17.
