The annual St. Patrick’s Celebration kicks off this weekend.
Comedians Jay Cooper and Fielding Fowler will entertain the public at the VFW this Friday, March 6. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. and tickets are available at the door.
Fielding Fowler offers the most absurd observations made all the funnier by his likable personality and unique delivery. Jay Cooper has worked as an opening act for big name headliners, comedians and musicians.
Laughter is the best medicine. Join in the fun.
The Irish Junior Miss Pageant is Sunday afternoon, March 8, at Corrigan Hall. Little Miss Shamrock, Little Lassie and Irish Miss will be crowned. The pageant begins at 3 p.m.
The Miss Shamrock Pageant Supper is Sunday, March 8, at Holy Family Parish Center. Sandwiches and dessert will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Miss Shamrock will be crowned Sunday evening. Six contestants will be on stage at 7 p.m. at Corrigan Hall. A reception for Miss Shamrock and her court will be held following the coronation.
New to the celebration this year is a “Gathering of the Clans &?Friends.” Emmetsburg Volunteer Fire Department and the St. Patrick’s Association will host the gathering at the Emmetsburg Fire Hall immediately following the St. Pat’s Parade on Saturday, March 14.
The doors will be open until 7 p.m. for everyone to attend. Adult beverages will be available along with sodas and snacks. The fire trucks will be parked outside to allow room to set up tables and chairs so large groups can be accommodated.
This event is an opportunity to support our local volunteer fire department and the St. Patrick’s Association. All Emmetsburg citizens and visitors are cordially invited and encouraged to attend.
There are many activities during the St. Pat’s Celebration. Among some of the highlights is the banquet.
This year’s banquet will be held at Iowa Lakes Community College, with the meal prepared by the ILCC Food Service. The menu will include brandy braised pork tenderloin, twice baked potato, steamed and seasoned broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot mix, and a lettuce salad, dinner rolls and beverages. The meal will be topped off with a butterfinger dessert. This year’s banquet will feature Rick Jones as the emcee.
Among the entertainment for the banquet will be Irish Dancers, and the 2009 Miss Shamrock will perform. The featured speaker will be Senator John Carty, a member of the Irish Parliament and the Fianna Fial Party. The St. Pat’s Association is pleased to honor our Irish Dignitary, along with the 2009 Miss Shamrock and remembrance of our Grand Marshall for 2009, Mickey Conlon. Along with these honorees, the St. Pat’s Association will recognize former Grand Marshals and Honorary Irishmen.
Everyone is encouraged to attend this exciting event. Tickets for the banquet are $15 per person and are available at St. Pat’s Headquarters or by calling 852.4326. The St. Pat’s Association extends an invitation to all citizens of Emmetsburg and the surrounding areas.
