Get Out Of The Cabin And Have Some Fun
RUTHVEN — Nearly a dozen events have been planned for Cabin Fever Weekend in Ruthven. So dress for the cold and get out in the snow to have some fun. Activities begin Saturday, Feb. 7, in Ruthven.
There is something for everyone: the fisherman, the sports enthusiast, children, shoppers, history buffs and the hungry!
The Cabin Fever Fishing Contest kicks off Friday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. Pay registration fees at Murphy Bait &?Tackle and have your catch turned in before the contest closes at 10 a.m. Sunday. Feb. 8. There will be door prizes and cash prizes for winners in each division:?Walleye, Northern or Panfish. Fish must be caught in Lost Island Lake. For information, call 240-5226.
The Junior High Boys Basketball Tournament is slated to begin at 8 a.m. at the Ruthven-Ayrshire High School gymnasium. For information on the tournament, call 2600-3212.
A new addition to Cabin Fever Weekend is “Reliving Ruthven.”?History memorabilia and old time photos of the Ruthven and Lost Island area will be on display Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Ruthven Social Center. The coffee pot will be on, so come on in and reminisce the “good ol’ days” over a hot cup.
Several Ruthven downtown businesses will be featuring Winter Open House. Look for specials on Valentine decor and more at the Picket Fence; and inventory reduction sale at Relatively T’s. Hours will vary for all stores, including Ruthven Antiques, Creative Punch Studios and Body Works Vinyl Graphics.
After shopping, reminiscing, and some basketball, it will be time for a good homemade lunch. The Corner Store and Café on Lost Island Lake will feature a variety of sandwiches and pies for their lunch special. In town, Joan’s Café will feature a soup and sandwich special.
Judging for the third annual Youth Snowman/Sculpture Contest begins at 12 noon Saturday. Entrants can sign up at the library or call 837-4866.
First place in the Snowman/Sculpture Contest will receive a $100 cash prize. Second place receives $50 and third place receives $25. Every entry will receive a free ice cream cone for each child involved, courtesy of the Lakeland EZ Stop.
The fun moves to the Lost Island Nature Center in the afternoon. At 1 p.m. the staff will be hosting a family snow shoeing event. For details, call 837-4866.
As the sun goes down, and the chill of the winter night takes hold, what better time for some hot soup. Chili and potato soups will be served at the Cabin Fever Soup Supper at the Ruthven American Legion building. Serving begins at 4 p.m.
The Quasquicentennial Committee will be kicking off their beard contest during the soup supper.
