“Don’t Hug Me”?Cast Begins Rehearsals
Auditions were held recently for the upcoming Main Street Community Theater Production of “Don’t Hug Me.” The musical written by Phil and Paul Olson chronicles the life and times of the owners and employees of the Bunyan, a northern Minnesota Bar.
“The Bunyan is not exactly a hot spot during the winter,” said director Brent McAllister. “Until Aarvid, a local karoke salesman played by Jared Madsen, delivers the LSS 562 and everyone gets into the act.”
The cast also includes Brian Garrels who plays the bar co-owner Gunner. Jackie VanOosbree will play the other owner of the bar, Gunner’s wife Clara. Laura Gustafson will play the part of Bernice the Bunyan waitress and would-be singer. Knute, the town’s most eligible bachelor and Bernice’s fiancé is played by Kirk Haack.
“It’s a pretty raucous show,” said McAllister “I’ve seen it described as a cross between “Fargo” and the “Music Man” without the blood or the trombones. I’m very happy to have such a talented cast. Denise Haack has agreed to be the musical director which is a real coup for us. “
“Don’t Hug Me”, will be presented to audiences at the Dinges-VanOosbree Center for the Performing Arts March 27 and 28 at 8:00 pm and Sunday March 29 at 2 pm. Audience will get a second chance to see the musical April 3 and 4 at 8:00 pm with a matinee April 5 at 2:00 pm.
Main Street Community Theater is proud to announce that “Don’t Hug Me” is being produced, in part, due to the generosity of the Wild Rose Casino and Resort.
