Junior Miss Pageant Contestants Sought

The 2009 St. Patrick’s Junior Miss Pageant will be held Sunday, March 8, with three categories of young ladies being judged. Entry forms are now available.

Little Miss Shamrock candidates are between the ages of five and seven years; and must be five years old by March 8, 2009, no exceptions. Little Lassie participants must be between the ages of eight and 11 years. Irish Miss candidates are between 12 and 16 years. Each category is limited to eight entries in each age group. One winner will be crowned in each age group.

Entry forms are available at St. Patrick’s Association Headquarters, downtown Emmetsburg. Forms can also be downloaded at www.emmetsburgirishgifts.com

Entries will be accepted after 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, and until 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30. Eight contestants will be drawn from all entries submitted in each category. The drawing will be held Monday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Pat’s Headquarters. Contestants will be notified that day. No late entries and no phone call entries will be accepted.

On pageant day, the contestants will be judged in the following areas:?pre-pageant interview, talent, overall presentation and appearance. Contestants that are chosen as queen will also need to be able to participate in all activities and parades during the summer and throughout the year that are prearranged by the St. Pat’s Association. Some of the parades that St. Pat’s participates in include the Orange City Tulip Festival, Spencer Flagfest, Spirit Lake Mainsail, Bully Bullhead Weekend, Estherville Sweet Corn Days, and Graettinger Labor Day. This is only a partial preview of the parades that the St. Pat’s Association attends. A complete list will be given to the winners in each group. Previous years Juniot Pageant winners are not eligible to take part in the competition.

St. Pat’s Headquarters is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to pick up entry forms. Headquarters is closed on Sunday.
