Welcome First Baby Of 2009
It took some time, but the moment (and the baby) finally arrived! The first baby born in Palo Alto County in 2009 is Lauren Marie Behrends. Little Lauren arrived at the Palo Alto County Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 8:16 p.m. She weighed in at seven pounds, three ounces and measured 20 inches in length.
The Behrends baby beat out another newborn, who arrived a few minutes later, as Palo Alto County’s New Year’s Baby. The little girl is the daughter of Kristina and Terry Behrends of Graettinger.
Mom Kristina works as a CNA at the Emmetsburg Care Center. Dad Terry is employed at EPS in Graettinger.
Grandparents are Bert and Shelly Refsell of Wallingford, and David and Ellen Behrends of Graettinger. Great grandparents include Don and Verna Krawmer and Robert and Wilma Refsell.
“We’re very excited,” said Kristina. “This is our first baby. We’re also very grateful for all the wonderful gifts.”
As the first baby born in 2009 in Palo Alto County, the Behrends family was presented with a gift basket filled with items from local businesses.
