Grotto Aglow With Lights

By Staff | Nov 28, 2008

WEST BEND — The Grotto of the Redemption is aglow with thousands of Christmas lights each evening through Jan. 4. The holiday lights emphasize the magnificent structure of the Grotto, which covers more than one city block and includes stones and semi-precious stones from around the world. It tells the beautiful story of Christ’s life and our Redemption in stone.

In addition to the lights, the Grotto is hosting a special fundraiser featuring Irene and Lyle Kuyper’s homemade doughnuts on Dec. 13, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Grotto Cafe. Proceeds from the free-will offerings will go toward Grotto restoration and repair.

The Grotto of the Redemption, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is open for visitation year round. Guided tours are offered from May through October or by appointment. A DVD tour, featuring Father Greving, is available for viewing in the Grotto Museum or can be purchased in the Grotto Gift Shop, open daily.
