Veterans Day Program At VFW Hall
Emmetsburg VFW Post #2295 will be host to the annual Veterans Day program next Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Paying tribute to Veterans, featured speaker is Major John Cunningham. State Representative Marcie Frevert of Emmetsburg will also speak.
Emmetsburg Catholic School Children’s Choir will sing. Wayne Smith of Emmetsburg will also sing at the program.
Major Cunningham is a native of Emmetsburg who has served in the Iowa Army National Guard since 1985. He served as a Cannoneer for Service Battery 1-194th FA until receiving his commission from the Iowa Military Academy in 1990.
During his military career, Major Cunningham has held a variety of command and staff assignments within the 1-194th FA, 2nd Brigade and the State of Iowa. His commands include Battery C, 1-194th FA and Battalion Rear Det Commander 1-194th FA in support of Operation Noble Eagle. He has also been the Brigade Fire Support Officer and ECOORD for 2BCT. Deployed as ETT Tm Chief to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His current full time position is the Assistant Chief of Staff for JFHQ-IA and as the Commander of the 1st Battalion 194th Field Artillery, 2d BCT, 34th Infantry Division.
Major Cunningham graduated from Grand View College, with a BA in Accounting. Major Cunningham is also a graduate of Officer Basic Course, Officer Advance Course and Command and General Staff Officer Course, and the Field Artillery Pre-Command course.
The public is invited to attend the Veteran’s Day program. Coffee and rolls will be served following the program, provided courtesy of Wells Fargo.
A commemorative section honoring veterans will be included in The Reporter next Tuesday, Nov. 11.
