Christmas For The Troops

By Staff | Nov 4, 2008

“The ‘Christmas For The Troops’ project has shown love and support for our men and ladies in the different branches of the services,” says Marge Mills, one of the VFW Auxiliary project coordinators.

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 2295 is collecting gifts and donations which will be wrapped and mailed. Donations are being accepted in donation boxes at several community locations: VFW Post, 3205 Main Street; Palo Alto County Courthouse; Emmetsburg Catholic School, Lakeside Lutheran Home, Emmetsburg Care Center, and Low Rent Housing office at 603 King Street, Apt. 18. The last day to donate is Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Suggested items to be included in the gift boxes are: white tube socks, large and extra large; personal care items, such as small toothpaste, brushes, lotion, baby powder, moisturized tissues, hand lotion, little Kleenex packages; nuts and small cans of chicken, ham, turkey, tuna, little sausages, beef jerky; snack crackers, trail mix, Pringles; hard candy (wrapped), Life Savers, pretzels, nutri-bars, chewing gum, paper-back books, puzzle books. A Christmas card or a note would also be nice. Please do not include homemade cookies since they do not travel well.

Monetary donations can be mailed to Donna Kunz, 1606 10th Street, Emmetsburg; Helen Myers, 111 North Superior, Emmetsburg; or Marge Mills, 1602 Lawler, Emmetsburg.

Boxes will be wrapped for shipping at the Tuesday, Nov. 18, meeting of VFW Auxiliary.
