By Staff | Aug 26, 2008

AN AMERICAN FLAG RAISING - Emmetsburg Catholic School celebrated the start of the 2008-2009 school year with a special flag folding and flag raising ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 21. All students, preschool through eighth grade, and teachers gathered around the school’s flag pole Thursday morning. Members of VFW Post #2295 were also on hand for the annual event. Pictured (at right) Post Commander Ron Hersom and Emmetsburg High School Principal Jean Hyslop demonstrate how the American flag is folded. The students watched and listened as the seventh and eighth graders related what each of the 13 folds mean. The flag was then raised aloft to fly freely, and the “Pledge of Allegiance” was recited. – Lori Hall photo
