The big yellow buses are a familiar sight again as students across Palo Alto County headed back to school on Wedesday morning. Buses pulled up to the Emmetsburg West Elementary to unload their precious cargo for the first day of classes. Motorists are reminded to keep an eye out for children traveling to and from school each day.

On Monday evening, Aug. 18, an open house and BBQ was held at the West Elementary for youngsters and their parents to better acquaint themselves with the coming school year. Students brought along their school supplies to stow away in their new lockers and desks. The Partners In Education (PIE) sponsored a BBQ at the West Elementary that evening, as well. Burgers, chips, and cookies were on the menu. The event provided the boys and girls an opportunity to meet their new teachers and some of their classmates.
