Strohman Wins At Internationals

Palo Alto County’s ace Pedal Puller added another honor to her distinguished list of accomplishments over the past weekend. Betty Sue Strohman took the Six-Year-Old age division championship at the 2008 International Pedal Tractor Pull in Fairview, Iowa this past Saturday.

Strohman, the daughter of Mark and Angie Strohman, made two full pulls of 40 feet in the competition before pulling a weight of 350 pounds some 36’2″ to win the competition over a field of six other entries in her age group. The weight is nearly four-times her own weight of 86 pounds.

In her first pull on Saturday, Betty Sue pulled a 280 pound weight sled completely through the 40′ pulling track. Another 40 pounds of weight was added to the sled, and Strohman again took the weight transfer sled through the full 40′ distance before an additional 30 pounds was added, stopping the brown-eyed puller just under four feet short of a third full pull.

Also competing in the six-year-old division were pullers from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Manitoba, Canada.

Strohman’s latest honor caps off a season of pulling that included wins at the Palo Alto County Fair in 2007, as well as the State Pedal Pull and National Pedal Pull, prior to the International appearance.

After a couple of days to rest up from her triumph, Betty Sue plans to take to the track once again this coming Saturday, July 26, for the annual Palo Alto County Fair Pedal Pull, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Palo Alto County Fairgrounds in Emmetsburg.
