Disaster Declaration For Palo Alto County

By Staff | Jul 3, 2008

After receiving a state Disaster Declaration by Iowa Governor Chet Culver last week, Palo Alto County officials were notified early this week that Palo Alto County has also earned a federal Disaster Declaration. Palo Alto County is now one of 77 Iowa counties earning Presidential Disaster Declaration, and making county residents who suffered loss due to storm damage eligible for public assistance.

In addition to Palo Alto County, Pocahontas, Kossuth, Humboldt and Lyon Counties were also accorded the Presidential Disaster Declarations this week. The Presidential Disaster Declaration allows for public assistance funds to be used for the approved costs for debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and the repairs or replacement of damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials will be scheduling and conducting briefings for public officials to explain the assistance application process in the near future.

Any individuals and business owners who sustained losses can apply for assistance by registering online at: www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA.
