Lost Island Plans

By Staff | Jun 26, 2008

RUTHVEN – July 4 and July 5, the place to be is Lost Island Lake, just north of Ruthven.

With warm weather upon us, camping, swimming at the beach, staying at a resort or fishing are certainly the top choices. But this coming Independence Day there will be something for everyone to do and enjoy as the lake prepares to celebrate the season.

The activities start at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 4, as there will be a Boat Parade around the lake. The parade line-up will begin at 12:30 at Redwood Resort on the SE corner of the lake and at 1 p.m. the parade will head out and follow the shoreline around. Get your boat or pontoon decorated and come join the fun. For more information contact Brett or Molly Laur at Redwood Resort who is sponsoring the event. Redwood Resort telephone number is 837-4481.

Later that evening at about 10 p.m. there will be a large fireworks show shot over the lake. The Lost Island second annual fireworks show has become a significant event, with last year’s display lasting about 40 minutes. This is an incredible pyrotechnic display that is able to be seen from the entire lake shore as well as spectator viewing from their boats. The display will once again be shot off from the west side of the lake by Lost Island Resort and Grandview Resorts, and donation cans have been set up at various locations to help defray expenses. These are located at the Lost Island Corner Store and all the resorts around Lost Island Lake as well as Murphy’s Bait and LakeLand EZ Stoppe in Ruthven. For more information on the fireworks, contact Paul Kerkhoff at Grandview Resort by calling 1-515-306-4955.

After the smoke settles, come Saturday morning as the Lost Island area residents will be having their annual Lost Island Lake Garage Sales. These will get underway about 8 a.m. and what better time to come out for an early morning drive around the lake, while stopping for bargains at the garage sales.
