Bicycle Rodeo Thursday

By Staff | May 6, 2008

With the school year winding down, youths will be taking to the streets on their bicycles more and more in the days and weeks to come. To help prepare these young bicyclists, a bicycle rodeo is planned for this Thursday afternoon at West Elementary School in Emmetsburg.

The bike rodeo will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot at West Elementary and is being sponsored through the Safe Routes To Schools Program and the City of Emmetsburg.

“The bike rodeo is open to third and fourth graders and it is being done through the cooperation and a grant from the state to the city through the Safe Routes to Schools program,” noted West Elementary Principal Matt Pugh.

Third and fourth graders were all presented with bicycle helmets recently, with fittings by Bikes, Boards and Blades of Spencer. The helmets were presented as part of the safety education arm of the Safe Routes to School program.
